Note taking is an art. A good study note decides your success in all competitive Exams. As a aspirant of your dream competitive exam, you should take notes whenever you sit to study. You should make it as a habit not merely a practice.
Why note taking important?

  • Aid to memory : It is impossible for memorizing what ever we learn. Thus we have to make notes.
  • Notes serves as  the tools for revision
  • You learn the by writing notes with your own words.
  • Note taking habit keeps as active always, avoids dullness and sleepy mood when we sit for exam preparation.

Which is best, A4 Sheets or Notebook ?

Two commonly used note taking materials by the most of the aspirants are Long Size Notebooks and A4 Sheets. Both have their own benefits, if you are using A 4 Sheets, when you go to a library of coaching class, only one file or folder and some A4 Sheets inside is enough for taking notes for various subjects. In case of notebooks, you should bring notebooks of all subjects.

Whatever the materials may be, you should keep your notes organised and safe. If you use A4 sheets, keep seperate files and folders for each subjects. If you use a long size notebook, use separate notebooks for each subject.

  • Make sure your notes will be readable after a long time.
  • Note what you haven't understood and get clarified from others.

How to take notes In Class Rooms ?

  • know whether the lecturer provides handouts.
  • Do not try to note entire lecture in your notes
  • Note key points only with Main concepts to Mini concepts
  • If you are given handouts, use your highlighter economically. Highlight important concepts only.

You have 24 hours of precious time a day. If you are not using every minute effectively, you will waste all your efforts.

Take a time audit yourself. Generally  the word 'audit' is commonly used in financial management for evaluating how each and every pennies of money have been spend and finally come with a report. Like that, sit and  do a self analysis of your time expenditure.

  1. Write down each and every tasks you do from morning wake up to night going to bed.
  2. Then write down how much time you spend on each task.
  3. Strike out unavoided tasks such as brushing, bathing, eating, travel etc.
  4. Mark the time spend for studies from the list.
  5. Now count the unmarked tasks, they may include chating with friends, sleeping during day time, playing computer games, etc.

How to avoid stress in your exam preparation ?What are the reason for the Students Stress ?

Stress is a mere stress when it is small and controllable. But when it grows and become big it will be very difficult to handle it. This is the reason for today's student suicides. Our mind can be compared to a baloon. As the baloon has a limited capasity to accomodate air and our mind also has a limit to bear stress if the stress becomes more that the limit it blasts like baloon. Some times our life come to an end like a baloon blast.

What are the reason for the Students Stress ?
  • If an assignment not completed in deadline
  • If you have not completed your portions for the examination
  • If there is not enough money to pay tuition fees
  • If some one who loves you fell ill
  • If you are away from your home thinking of your parents always
  • If some one hurts you

Does stress benefit ?

I can say yes. Stress can be divided in to lowlevel and high level stress. Low level stress is controllable and may be called as benifitial stress. It always end up in good outcome. For example, you have stress on finishing your assignments when they are announced not at the day before the deadline. You will complete the assignments day by day and will finish it before the deadline. If you have stress of your examination at the beginning of your academic year not the week before the final exams, you will study day by day and it brings you good results in your examinations.

Stress can be benifit, if it is given attention at right time. Thus it becomes benifitial. But, if your stress is not given attention in right time it becomes danger.

What are the symptoms of stress ?

  • Not interested in anything
  • Easily upseted mind
  • Eating too much, drinking too much, smoking or using drugs too much in effort to reduce stress. But these dont work really.
  • Growing inferiority complex, comparing others too much.
  • Feeling un healthy, some time fewerish and fell ill.

If you have the most of these symptoms you are in high level stress. As already discussed high level stress is very dangerous. You should find some immediate remedy to overcome your stress. Read the following tips which may help you to come out of stress.

How to avoid / overcome stress ?

Here are some tips to come out of your stress before it perish your life.
  • Meditation cures stress
Meditation is not a compex word. It is very simple. You all have to do a breathing excercise to reduce over stress. If you dont know how to do a breathing excersice. Google it and find some simple method. It really works.
  • Do some excercise
Doing some simple exercise like swimming, jogging etc. may calm your body and mind and your stress level may be reduced.

  • Drink lot of waters
By drinking plenty of water may relieve yourself from stress.
  • Sleep well
Have a sleep of atleast 7 hours during night. If you feel over stressed i the day time you can have a 1 hour nap (short time sleep). Sleeping gives you good relief as your brain get refreshed when you awake from a sleep.
  • Look in to yourself
You should understand one fact that you are the only reason for the stress you are in, and not your teachers, parents, friends or your environment. Sit and analyse yourself what else have made you this much of stress. Mostly you will find two words "Assault" and "Procrastination". Accept your failure and decide to avoid them in future.

  • Strictly avoid Inferiority Complex
Don't compare the better doers with you. Realise that you could have done better than them if you have utilized the time and opportunity better than them. So decide one day you will be better than them.
  • Manage your time now
Stress is the result of lack of time management. Thus now onwards plan your time effectively and strictly follow the plan and surely you will come out of stress.

Self Motivation tips to win any Exam,How to find your driving force of motivation ?

“Do you want to know who you are? Don't ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you.”
― Thomas Jefferson

It is a well known fact that UPSC/TNPSC / TNTET etc. are the examinations which are targeted by lacks of candidates. If you want to make yourself in the winners list you have to follow certain tips and you should be different from others.  The most important driving force behind any body's success is none other that motivation. Motivation generally our inner wishes, desires, reasons to achieve something. You can not do any task successfully without interest and motivation. If you are highly motivated, sure you can win the race.

“Motivation is the fuel, necessary to keep the human engine running.”

Imagine, two men are walking in the street after their work in a same company. One is walking fast to reach his home to see his two months old child. But another is walking slowly. The first man reached his home quickly than the other. It may be a simple example. By this, I want to make you understand that there should be some driving forces to make you work and lead towards achievement.

“Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal - a commitment to excellence - that will enable you to attain the success you seek.”
― Mario Andretti
How to find your driving force of motivation ?

The reason to achieve something may differ from person to person. As a student, for your goal of achieving high in your academic activities your reason or driving forces may be one or more of the following.

These are some example driving forces. What you are needed to do is  ....take a paper now, sit and write some top 3-5 driving forces of motivation in your life. Note those driving forces in your diary and paste it in the walls of your study room, so that whenever you see them you may be motivated. Be a Smart Worker not Hard Worker ,What makes a student smart ?

I have come across some best candidates who used to study for a long time in the night, taking number of notes, reading until they get tired, staying in the library for hours and partially isolated from the fellow students and some time from the entire world to get good scores in any competitive Exam.

At the same time I know some candidates they could be seen with friends, no body can differentiate them from others. They play in the grounds, laughs with friends. But in the results only they stay unique from others.

While both hard workers and smart workers get same results. What makes a student smart ?, To be a smart worker what one should do ? . Have a look at the following picture and the table, you might get some understandings about being a smart worker.

"There were two wood cutters in a jungle one cuts trees for 12 hours and the other for 6 hours but the woodcutter that cuts the trees for less hours cuts the most trees. This was because he sharped his knife after every hour. Now you can easily differentiate between hard work and smart work."

Simple tips to be a Successful Smart Student.

Self Confidence : The most important requirement for being a Smart Worker is the Self Confidence. You should believe your self. You should believe you can be best. This belief will automatically direct you towards success.

Aim for High : You should define your aim in your life. Having a plan will make your travel easier. You should visualize yourself that you have reached the goal.

Be Organised : Being organised makes you perfect. It increases your self confident. It will raise your image among others.

Time Management : Have every thing at its time. Dont waste a single minute of your students life.

Think Positive : Positive thinking is a gift of life. Develop positive thinking. It will give strenght to face challenges in your student life.

TNPSC EXAM TIPS -How many time for every single questions ?

There are generally,  200  Objective Type  Questions in the TNPSC Exams. You will be provided 3 Hours to attend all 200 questions.  The most fruitful idea is to divide the  Exam Duration by Total Number Of Questions.

[ 3 Hours =180 Minutes =     10800 Seconds,   ie,  10800 / 200 =  54 Seconds Per Question]

So you should spend    54 Seconds for Each Questions .

Actually, if you have prepared well, you may finish some questions with in 10 seconds , so remaining time you can use for tough questions in the aptitude area.

Prioritize Questions into Type 1, 2, 3

When you start answering questions, you may come accross some confused,
tough or unknown questions. Commonly, candidates get struck at the particular questions and get tension and waste their precious time .

So I advise to prioritize questions into 3 catagories . It doesn't mean that you should read all questions before answering the questions.

You need to prioritise the Difficult Questions Only not all questions. And strictly answer the following kind of questions after answering all known questions only.

Type 1 :  Confused Questions

If you find some questions confused , note it in the rough sheet as category 1 and skip now. You may attend it after finishing all known questions.

Eg :  -   Type 1 : 23, 45, 77, 89 ....

Type 2 : Tough Questions

You feel this type of questions tough but you can answer them if have some time to think .

Eg :- Type 2 : 5, 8, 98 ....

Type 3 : Answers Unknown

Since TNPSC Current Exam pattern does not have negative marking system, you can answer this type of question as you want.

All the best !
